Understanding Sleep Architects

What is Sleep Architects?

Sleep Architects (SAX) is a team of dental and medical professionals who work together to make sleep care simple, guided, and effective. We partner with dentists across the country to help patients identify and treat sleep-related breathing disorders — starting in the dental chair, where many of the first signs appear.

Insurance and Cost

Does medical insurance cover treatment?

In most cases, yes. Oral appliance therapy for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is typically covered under your medical insurance, not your dental plan. Coverage and costs can vary based on your insurance provider, but your dentist’s Sleep Architects team will verify benefits and review options with you before starting any therapy.

Is there an out-of-pocket cost?

Out-of-pocket costs vary based on the insurance plan you have chosen and will be explained to you by your care team in advance–no surprises.

Finding a Dentist

What is home sleep testing?

Home sleep testing is a simple, comfortable way to evaluate your breathing while you sleep — right in your own bed. You’ll receive a small, medical-grade device mailed to your home. It measures your oxygen, airflow, and other signals overnight. The data is reviewed by a board-certified sleep physician, who provides an official diagnosis.

How much does a home sleep test cost?

Costs vary by insurance plan, but most are covered under medical insurance. Your care team will confirm coverage before you begin.

If You’ve Already Been Tested or Diagnosed

What if I’ve already had a sleep study?

That’s great! If you’ve already been diagnosed with sleep apnea, your dentist can work with Sleep Architects to review your results and create a treatment plan tailored for you — including a custom open airway therapy appliance if appropriate.

Can I switch from a CPAP to an oral appliance?

In many cases, yes. If your doctor has recommended CPAP but you find it difficult to use, talk to your dentist about whether oral appliance therapy may be right for you. Your dentist’s Sleep Architects team can coordinate with your physician to ensure safe, effective care.
